Biography:

Cassette exploded onto the South African music scene, from the release of their first single, they literally blew up. Their first single, was released independently and was a surprise hit on radio stations worldwide. In South Africa it shot to number 1 on the charts. On South Africa’s major national radio station, the song stuck on the charts for 5 long months and is still on rotation on most radio stations in the country.

Cassette’s first ever gig was live on national television on the “Late Night with Paul Viv” show. Meanwhile, one of London’s stations, XFM, picked up Your Star and voluntarily entered the song into a national unsigned battle of the bands (the very same competition that broke super group, Keane, into the UK). Your Star won the competition and, soon, the song was picked up by campus stations around Europe and in the US.

The success of the song, together with a powerful and entertaining live show, lead to a very fast rise for Cassette in South Africa. The band is made up of extremely passionate individuals who are highly expressive and opinionated when it comes to music, politics and life in general. Do not mistake them for a political band - they are NOT a political band. Even though there are songs on the album about Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe’s dictator and other world issues, there are also songs about love, hate, the music industry and whatever floats their boat!

It is rare to find a band that gives so much to an audience – they can be spellbinding, humorous and personal all at the same time. Their moves are reminiscent of the truly great rockers and, with their distinctive retro style; they bring a fresh exciting energy to the international music industry. Cassette have absorbed influences ranging from Presley, Brown, Cocker, Mercury and everyone in between

Their debut album “Welcome Back to Earth”, recently received the “Best Rock Album” Award at the South African Music Awards (April 2007) and is due for worldwide release over the next few months. The first single off the album “Tracy” is out May. Cassette are also touring Europe at that time including dates in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.
